Webbs Garden Centres have introduced the ‘Rose for Hope’ across all four stores. The initiative aims to raise essential funds for brain tumour research and pays tribute to the memory of Megan Callaway – the daughter of Clare Callaway who has worked here at Webbs for 11 years.
Clare conceived the idea behind Webbs stocking the ‘Rose for Hope’ after her daughter Megan, sadly passed away in 2021 at the age of 19. Megan was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the age of 8 and over several years, underwent multiple surgeries and endured gruelling rounds of radiotherapy. She was left with life-changing consequences, including sight loss, memory issues, cognitive impairment and hypopituitarism.
Clare said, “Megan asked us to tell her story and raise awareness of what she went through and I can think of no better way to do that, than through this initiative.
"Megan was an incredibly gifted artist, consistently earning the highest grades at school and art college for her work. She had the biggest heart and retained a sense of humour even through the darkest moments.
"It would have been her 22nd birthday on August 31st. I would love people to come to Webbs and buy a Rose for Hope for Megan and others affected by brain tumours. Every sale will help fund vital research into this dreadful disease."
New for 2023, the repeat-flowering Rose for Hope is a deep yellow flower which will add a pop of colour to any garden. It is being sold in a pink pot, the colours of the charity, and a minimum of £1 from every sale will be donated to Brain Tumour Research.
Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet just 1% of national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease.
